In a Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match held in Cardiff, Australia claimed a decisive five-wicket win over England, largely due to a standout performance by Ellyse Perry. Perry spearheaded the successful run chase by scoring a remarkable 64 runs off just 44 balls, which included nine boundaries. Australia’s pursuit of England’s target of 158 concluded at 158 for five, with 10 balls to spare.

The foundation of Australia’s innings was laid by opener Beth Mooney, who provided a solid start by contributing 43 runs from 26 deliveries. This strong beginning helped Australia maintain a steady pace throughout their innings, ensuring they kept up with the required run rate to secure the victory.

Earlier, England had posted a total of 157 for six, recovering from an early collapse where they found themselves at 19 for three. The recovery was largely orchestrated by Alice Capsey, who top-scored with 45 runs, and Freya Kemp, who added a swift 41 runs off 27 balls. Their efforts were crucial in rebuilding England’s innings after the initial setbacks.

England’s captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was making her return from an injury, managed just three runs in her comeback innings. Despite a middle-order resurgence, England’s performance was marred by missed opportunities in the field, with several dropped catches allowing Australia’s batters to take advantage and complete their chase with relative ease.

This match served as an important preparatory fixture for both teams as they gear up for the Women’s T20 World Cup. England will continue their warm-up matches in hopes of fine-tuning their strategies before the tournament officially kicks off.
