Since 2020, VNREDSat-1 has produced nearly 30,000 images that support environmental management, disaster monitoring, scientific research, socio-economic progress, and security endeavors.

Trần Hồng Thái, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, highlighted the program’s role in building a strong technical and human-resource foundation for upcoming satellite projects. However, he acknowledged that achieving greater technological independence would necessitate further advancements in various areas, including satellite design, payloads, electronics, and ground systems. The recent state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam in May 2025 marked a new phase of collaboration. During this visit, a declaration of intent was signed by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Airbus Defence and Space, and the French National Centre for Space Studies, signaling a commitment to long-term cooperation in space technology and Earth observation.

Looking ahead, future collaborations are expected to enhance Vietnamese involvement in mission planning, system design, subsystem development, and data applications. This strategic focus encompasses control software, remote-sensing image processing, artificial intelligence, and specific sensors and payloads, creating avenues for Vietnam to strengthen its domestic expertise. The overarching goal is to transition from purchasing satellite systems to co-developing and mastering the technology, enabling Vietnamese scientists and engineers to design, operate, and eventually innovate future generations of satellite technology independently.
